Environment Ministry Launches Diaspora Youth Green Clubs

Algeria's Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life has initiated a new program, establishing environmental clubs for children of the national diaspora residing abroad, beginning in Tipaza. This effort is designed to enhance educational and awareness activities, promoting ecological consciousness among younger generations and reinforcing their ties to the national environment. The initiative is part of a collaborative program involving the Ministry of Youth and the Secretariat of State for the National Community Abroad, seeking to engage diaspora children in learning about environmental protection and the preservation of Algeria's abundant natural resources.

The program aims to instill a culture of environmental conservation in children by educating them on current ecological issues. It includes the organization of field activities that allow participants to explore Algeria's diverse natural sites, such as reserves, coastal areas, and forests, while also learning about the country's rich biodiversity. Educational and awareness workshops, overseen by the National Institute for Environmental Training under the Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life, provide participants with insights into practices that contribute to environmental protection. These workshops also cover topics like climate change and its impact on the environment and development, presenting simplified knowledge and practical pedagogical activities such as planting and gardening techniques.

Beyond theoretical instruction, participating children also experienced a field trip to a natural and archaeological site within the Tipaza province. This excursion provided them with a direct opportunity to observe local biodiversity and discover the region's forest and coastal wealth. These activities, which integrate environmental education, hands-on learning, and recreation, serve to broaden the diaspora children's understanding of the Algerian environment. The initiative plays a crucial role in connecting them with their motherland's natural heritage, fostering values of environmental citizenship from a young age, and diversifying programs for the national diaspora by embedding environmental and educational dimensions.
