Algeria Plays Leading Role in Regional Security

General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), emphasized on Tuesday Algeria’s “leading” and “pivotal” role in combating terrorism and achieving security and stability in the Sahel region.

Following his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, General Langley stated, “Algeria shares some concerns with the United States regarding the expansion of violent extremist organizations across Africa and the Sahel region.” He further highlighted Algeria’s “leading role in counterterrorism efforts in the past and present throughout this region.”

Acknowledging Algeria’s “pivotal” role in ensuring security, stability, and prosperity in Africa, the AFRICOM Commander expressed his gratitude to President Tebboune for Algeria’s support. “I thank His Excellency President Tebboune for the support Algeria has provided us,” Langley said.

General Langley also mentioned, “During my talks with His Excellency President Tebboune, I expressed our great appreciation for the opportunity to visit and hold discussions with him.” He noted that the meeting addressed “the importance of continuing discussions and building friendship,” focusing on “ways to work together to achieve more security and strengthen bilateral relations to become even stronger.”
