Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Innovation: Minister Emphasizes Strategic Importance in Tindouf Visit

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Kamal Bedari highlighted the importance of using artificial intelligence to foster innovation during a visit to Tindouf province on Tuesday. He described it as “a vital scientific tool for modernizing the economy.”

While overseeing the opening of a seminar on “Artificial Intelligence… Expanding the Frontiers of Science and Enhancing Innovation” as part of a working visit to the province, the minister emphasized that artificial intelligence is a highly significant scientific tool in the modern era, contributing to the support and development of innovation as well as economic modernization. He also noted that it represents one of the current and future scientific challenges.

The minister emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence, particularly on the occasion of Science Day, stating that “it is one of the fundamental pillars of the professions of the future.” He further highlighted the significant attention given by the “Ali Kafi” University Center in Tindouf to this aspect during the National Week of Artificial Intelligence.

In the context of comprehensive development, especially in the southern provinces like Tindouf, the minister stated that Algeria, through its new strategy, aims for comprehensive development, with Tindouf set to become a regional, national, and global industrial hub.

To materialize these aspirations, the minister announced a forthcoming visit by a research team to Tindouf to initiate the development of argan oil exploitation. He also stressed that the university institution represented by the “Ali Kafi” University Center in Tindouf will be the driving force meeting the community’s needs at both local and national levels.

The seminar focused on artificial intelligence, startups, and future challenges, as well as applications of artificial intelligence in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and life sciences, along with the role of artificial intelligence in upgrading education and scientific research. Ethical and legal issues surrounding artificial intelligence were also addressed.

Attendees, including professors, researchers, doctoral students, project holders, and executives from economic institutions, discussed the necessity of raising awareness about the importance of investing in artificial intelligence and its role in advancing scientific research and improving the quality of education.

During the visit, detailed presentations were given on projects registered for the benefit of the higher education and scientific research sector in Tindouf, including the completion of 1,000 teaching positions and the establishment of a university residence with 500 beds, in addition to the restoration and renewal of the old university residence.

Moreover, the minister inspected an exhibition showcasing graduation project models related to startup institutions, visited an exhibition on the activities of the scientific club of the central library, and another on traditional industry and crafts held at the university.

As part of concluding his visit to Tindouf and during the celebration of Science Day, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research signed cooperation agreements between the “Ali Kafi” University Center, the Diwan Cultural Pavilion, and the Directorate of Tourism and Traditional Industry in the province.
