Chabab Mila Clenches Main Round Spot in African Handball Cup: A Thrilling Comeback Against Red Star

Oran – Chabab Mila has secured its place in the main round of the African Handball Cup Winners’ Cup (men’s) after a dramatic 23-23 draw against Ivory Coast’s Red Star in Oran during the second round of Group “B” on Saturday.

The match, held at the multi-sport hall of the “Meloud Hadefi” Olympic complex, began with Red Star dominating, concluding the first half with a four-goal lead (12-8). However, the Algerian team rallied back in the second half, improving their performance markedly.

The awakening of Chabab Mila was evident as they managed to tie the game at 16-16 by the 15th minute of the second half, and shortly thereafter took the lead for the first time. They extended their lead to two goals by the 23rd minute.

The final minutes of the match were fraught with excitement as the visiting team made a comeback, gaining a one-goal advantage in the last minute. Nonetheless, the determination of Chabab Mila players shone through as they equalized in the game’s final twenty seconds, ending the match at 23-23.

Thanks to this crucial point, the Algerian club earned their qualification to the main round by goal difference, as they had previously lost to Olympic Annaba (27-30), the group leader. Meanwhile, Red Star had also suffered a defeat against Annaba (20-28), further cementing Chabab Mila’s advancement based on their performance.
