Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to Intellectual Property at WIPO Meetings in Geneva

Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts Malika Bendouda reaffirmed Algeria’s firm commitment to making intellectual property an effective tool for development and prosperity, as well as a real driver of the knowledge economy.
Her statement came during the opening session of the 68th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization, held on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts.
Bendouda said Algeria places the protection of intellectual property at the heart of its strategy to build a knowledge-based economy. She stressed that supporting creators and protecting their rights are essential to transforming creativity from an abstract value into concrete projects with real developmental impact.
According to the minister, this approach allows young people to invest in their talents and turn them into sustainable economic assets. She added that, under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Ministry of Culture and Arts continues its efforts to create an environment that encourages cultural investment.
In this context, Bendouda highlighted several initiatives launched by her sector. These include “Moubadir Art,” designed as an incubator and support mechanism for emerging creative projects, as well as the President of the Republic’s Ali Maachi Award for Young Creators, which has become an annual event celebrating Algerian talent.
At the regional level, the minister reaffirmed Algeria’s central role as a reference hub for training executives from African and Arab countries sent by the organization. She said this reflects the strength of Algeria’s experience and its ambition to help build an integrated African and Arab system that supports creative industries and protects shared cultural heritage.
Speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, Bendouda also praised Arab countries’ efforts to strengthen intellectual property systems, support creativity and encourage innovation. She welcomed the progress achieved by WIPO over the past year, particularly in financial performance and program implementation.
