Tunisia Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Algeria

Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, reaffirmed today in Algiers his country’s commitment to continuing joint efforts with Algeria in order to raise bilateral relations to the level of a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”
Speaking during a meeting of the Follow-up Committee dedicated to evaluating the recommendations of the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission for Cooperation, Nafti said this approach comes in line with the directives of the leaders of both countries and reflects the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
The Tunisian minister explained that the meeting forms part of the ongoing “year of consultation and coordination” between Algeria and Tunisia. He added that it also aims to monitor the implementation of the outcomes of the 23rd session of the Joint High Commission, by assessing the agreements and recommendations already achieved and by addressing the difficulties that may slow down cooperation.
Nafti praised the level reached by security and military cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the shared will to further strengthen this cooperation in order to face common security challenges, particularly the fight against terrorism, irregular migration and organized crime, as well as the reinforcement of border control.
He also highlighted the progress made in the project to build a 1,400-megawatt power generation plant in Tunisia. In this regard, he underlined the importance of holding sectoral ministerial meetings, especially in the fields of trade, border area development and water resources.
The minister also called for continued meetings of joint technical committees in priority sectors. He emphasized the need to give new momentum to economic and trade cooperation by accelerating the work of the trade technical committee, following up on the recommendations of the Tunisian-Algerian Economic Forum, and continuing joint development projects in border areas.
