Chlef Police Arrest TikTok User for Religious Insult

Security services in Chlef wilaya recently apprehended an individual in their twenties following an online broadcast on TikTok. The suspect is alleged to have made insulting remarks against the Prophet and mocked religious precepts during a live stream. This swift action by authorities highlights the serious stance taken against online offenses in Algeria.
Upon detection of the contentious content, the cybercrime brigade, part of the wilaya judicial police, initiated an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Investigators seized the mobile phone used for the broadcast, which is now part of the evidence. Electronic conversations and other digital content were also recovered, confirming the intentional use of online communication tools to commit the acts, which are severely punished under Algerian law, particularly when committed in the cyber realm.
The content of the broadcast, which quickly circulated online beyond the initial audience, provoked widespread indignation among Algerian internet users, many of whom called for a rapid response from authorities. Following the interrogations, the accused individual was referred to the public prosecutor at the Chlef court. Algerian justice maintains a firm approach on such matters, considering the use of digital platforms an aggravating circumstance due to the extensive reach of online broadcasts.
