Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, met with Mr. Du Fei, Chairman of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), in Algiers on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The high-level meeting resulted in a rigorous roadmap and an emergency plan designed to accelerate the strategic modernization of the East Mining Line, particularly focusing on the priority Bouchegouf–Souk Ahras–Driéa section. This critical infrastructure project is a key component for the socio-economic development of Eastern Algeria and is essential for mineral transport.
The agreement follows a series of recent field inspections aimed at identifying and addressing project delays. Minister Djellaoui conducted an inspection of the 422-kilometer route between August 15 and 17, 2026, during which he highlighted deficiencies and called for an immediate increase in the pace of work. Subsequently, CRBC Chairman Du Fei personally inspected the 121-kilometer critical Bouchegouf-Driéa section on August 21 and 22, demonstrating the Chinese partner's commitment to the project's progress.
During the coordination meeting, attended by ministry officials and the Director-General of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investments (ANESRIF), the participants meticulously reviewed the advancement of critical engineering structures, including bridges and tunnels. In response to the Algerian government's clear expectations, CRBC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensure the timely delivery of the infrastructure. A five-measure emergency action plan was validated during the session, underscoring a proactive approach to overcoming challenges and ensuring the strategic national priority is met.
