Algiers – The 27th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA 2024), scheduled from November 6 to 16, will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Algerian Liberation Revolution by hosting national and international figures for intellectual and literary panels, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts.

During a coordination meeting chaired by Minister of Culture, Soraya Mouloudji, at the ministry’s headquarters, detailed plans for SILA 2024 were discussed. The minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of this edition, particularly as Algeria prepares to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the November Revolution.

This year’s focus on the anniversary (1954-2024) highlights the revolution’s profound significance in Algeria’s national memory. Visitors to the fair can expect a range of intellectual and literary discussions on the impact of the revolution, with participation from prominent figures both locally and globally. These sessions will examine how the November Revolution inspired movements around the world.

In addition, the Palestinian cause will also feature prominently at the event, with panels such as “Resistance Literature in Palestine: Voices Against Fire,” “Palestine in Algerian Poetry,” “Cinema Confronting Zionism,” and “A Tribute to the Martyr Poets of Gaza.”

Other topics to be explored include translation, African and Arab literature, and intellectual thought, with panels such as “Algeria-Qatar: Literature That Unites Us” in partnership with Katara, “Algeria-Africa: Cultural Caravans,” and “The Arab Heritage in African Literature.” Additionally, discussions on decolonization will address topics like “Western Sahara: Africa’s Last Colony.”

Several cultural and literary figures from Algeria and abroad will be honored during the event. The “My First Book” prize, which recognizes debut authors, will also be awarded.

Minister Mouloudji emphasized the importance of achieving the goals of this major international cultural event, underscoring SILA’s standing as the most popular cultural event in Algeria, with a leading position across Africa, the Arab world, and the Mediterranean region.

SILA 2024 will be held at the Algiers Exhibition Palace (SAFEX) under the theme “We Read to Triumph.”
